Highland Park is known for its’ parks: a train park, dog parks, Sunset Woods park, tennis, an ice rink, beach access and more. The Highland Park Park District maintains 9 facilities, 700 acres of land, and 3,000 programs. 3,000! It is part of the Park District’s promise to deliver excellent parks, facilities and programs while keeping community fees and taxes in line.

Property taxes provide approximately 50% of the Park District’s funding, with user fees, memberships, grants and donations providing the remaining funds. Though sales tax does not directly go to the Park District, when our businesses are strong, our community amenities are strong.

Downtown Highland park businesses support the Park District in a multitude of ways. They put up posters to promote Park District events, Uncle Dan’s provides paddle board rentals at Rosewood Beach, and Cal Bernstein of Samuels & Bernstein is a member of the Board of Commissioners. Park District baseball and soccer teams go to celebrate at Frost Gelato and Dairy Queen of course!

Don’t forget the Park District’s sponsorship of our Fourth of July parade and the hugely popular Fourth Fest in Sunset Woods Park is a partnership between the Park District and Highland Park Bank & Trust.
