Self-compassion is an alternative to our inner critic. Self-compassion is the secret to resilience. And when we master the practice of self-compassion, we are able to turn our compassion outward to others.
Following the philosophy of the wisdom traditions and western practitioners, this class will offer a hands-on approach to metta (loving kindness) meditation, rhythmic breathing practice and self-discovery. Foundationally, it is believed that every emotion has a corresponding rhythm in the breath and that regulating the breath can help relieve stress and anxiety.
This six-week class will review both the practical and spiritual foundations of metta, self-compassion, mindfulness and our common humanity. Through a series of weekly in class exercise, we will learn how to move from self-judgment to caring, from isolation to connection, and from indifference or dislike to understanding.
This class will be grounded in cultivating a state of mindfulness, self-compassion and loving- kindness. This is an active class that includes discussion, practice, and in-class exercises to help awaken our “self-compassionate” nature.
This class is open to those with little or no meditation experience as well as those with some experience that wish to explore self-compassion.
Once again, I am grateful to the Eileen Fisher organization and the Highland Park Leadership Team for offering this space to support a community of mindfulness.
