The outcome of this fall’s midterm elections for Congress will be the most consequential in decades. The likely return to divided government will shelve much of the conservative domestic agenda of President Trump and his congressional allies. The president’s foreign policy agenda will be largely unaffected, however. In this lecture, Professor Marquardt of Lake Forest College will address the effect of the elections to the House and Senate on key domestic and foreign policy issues, and draw parallels between the 2018 midterms and past midterm elections that resulted in both major political parties sharing power.
