In an effort to support the musical approach to healthy living, Freedom Home Care is proud to sponsor a FREE series of music appreciation events. The musical gatherings are held by composer and music researcher Jim Kendros at Dickinson Hall, the Lake Forest Lake Bluff Senior Center located at 100 E Old Mill Rd, Lake Forest from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings each month, with upcoming dates of March 28, April 25, and May 23.
Recognizing the “music as medicine” health benefits, Freedom Home Care urges its senior clients to listen to music to ease their minds and bodies, and aid in recovery. They applaud the quote from Harvard Medical School article stating, “Make no mistake — daily doses of Mozart won’t clean out your arteries or fix a faulty heart valve. But music can help ease your recovery from a cardiac procedure, get you back to normal after a heart attack or stroke, relieve stress, and maybe even lower your blood pressure a tad.”
Individuals are required to register one week prior to each class and can do so by calling Dickinson Hall at (847) 234-2209. Once registered, attendees will be able to join music researcher and composer Jim Kendros for a morning of enjoyable music exploration. Kendros will guide attendees through the fascinating lives and times of the great composers. Each program has a different musical focus, ie; “Happy Birthday Bach, Vivaldi and Haydn.”
Jim Kendros is often referred to as “The North Shore’s Favorite Music Historian,” and has lectured and performed at senior centers for over twenty years. A professional composer of over 400 works, Jim is passionate about bringing classical music into the lives of his audiences. Jim’s presentations are always uplifting and enjoyable. “My goal is to make these presentations the most exciting, educational and entertaining events anyone has ever experienced in continuing education – and I will stop at nothing to accomplish this!” Jim’s audiences always smile and laugh when they hear him say this, and they know they can expect the highest quality presentations from him.
