unnamed (7)

The event kicks off District 112 Education Foundation’s iRead, the read-a-thon that encourages children to read while raising money for special programs at the schools. Festivities begin at 9 a.m. with appearances by several authors including Kate Hannigan, Michele Weber Hurwitz, and Allan Woodrow. Others making appearances throughout the day include award-winning author Andy Rash (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.) and award-winning author and illustrator Josh Schneider (1-3 p.m.). Schneider, who writes for children as young as preschoolers, is the author of five books including Tales for Very Picky Eaters, which won the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award. The award, given annually, recognizes the author and illustrator of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States.
