Winner at the Minneapolis St. Paul and Seattle International Film Festivals, Belle & Sebastian is the heartwarming film about a motherless young boy and the giant Mountain Dog named Belle that he befriends.
Adapted from the popular 1960’s French TV series and children’s book of the same name, the film is set during WWII in the snowy Alps of occupied France. Cared for by his elderly guardian, Cesar (Tchéky Karyo The Missing, La Femme Nikita), six-year-old Sebastian secretly becomes friends with “the beast” an abused dog who the local farmers believe is killing their sheep. The Mountain Dog quickly becomes the boy’s best friend and protector. With Nazis in the village rooting out Resistance Fighters helping Jewish refugees cross the border, Belle and Sebastian’s loyalty to each other and the village that’s embraced them will be put to the test.
