Highland Park Public Library will host a gospel music concert featuring Pastor Donald Gay on Saturday, November 4. The concert with Gay is part of the Library’s Note for Note music series. The series brings a variety of music, from classical to blues to Mexican folk music, to the Library, and features a variety of esteemed performers.
Gay is the pastor at the Prayer Center Church of God in Christ on Chicago’s south side. As a child, he often performed with his sisters, Evelyn, Geraldine, and Mildred, who were well known as the Gay Sisters Trio. At the invitation of Mahalia Jackson, the Gay Sisters Trio, with younger brother Donald, appeared at the first gospel concert in Carnegie Hall in New York. Gay recorded with his sisters for Rush, Hummingbird, and Chess Records, and has recorded for The Sirens Records.
Gay will perform with Cliff Dubose and Lavelle Lacy. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The concert is funded by a grant from YEA! Highland Park.
