Join us to celebrate Family Reading Night, an annual statewide event to encourage families to spend quality time reading together. We’ll have cozy spaces where kids can read to parents, parents can read to kids, kids can read to each other, and even one where everyone can read quietly together. Kids can put on a puppet show based on their favorite books, participate in “reader’s theater” or make a book of their own to take home. Take a family portrait with your favorite books in the Digital Media Lab! Your family can be pictured reading in one of five famous world libraries. As always, families are welcome to ask librarians for help finding the next good book to read.
To kick off the celebration, Highland Park Police Chief Paul Shafer will star in a special read-aloud performance from Platypus Police Squad: The Frog Who Croaked by Jarrett J. Krosoczka at 5 p.m. in the Lobby.
Family Reading Night is sponsored by the Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian, Jesse White and Illinois Center for the Book.
