ANNOUNCING THE JACKIE SABATH EXHIBITION FUND
The Art Center Highland Park is approaching the 6th biennial art exhibition of Voices and Visions, Standing on the Bridge between Health and Disease, an outreach art event designed to showcase work that deals with the subject of cancer in a profound way, with the purpose of building community, awareness and, when possible, offer solace to those affected by the circumstances of health-related issues.
V&V calls for powerful, meaningful artistic works that express how cancer affects all of our lives. Beginning in 2010 with an emphasis on breast and ovarian cancer, 2014 saw a broadened scope to include works that portray cancer as not only a literal threat, but also a metaphor for facing our individual mortality, and how these struggles help us find meaning in our own lives.
V&V exhibits have traveled to cancer centers across the country, received a proclamation from the City of Highland Park, and is widely regarded as a positive expression of hope and empowerment for all those impacted by diseases of all types.
This year we will pay fitting homage to past contributing artist, the late Jackie Sabath. Her powerful piece from 2016 exemplified the spirit of strength and perseverance that V&V portrays but sadly, this was her last exhibit. Tragically, she passed away before the opening event and she never was able to witness the impact of her work on our audience.
In the spirit of empowerment, of moving forward in the face of adversity, and in her honor, her family is creating The Jackie Sabath Exhibition Fund at TAC HP. This generous gift will serve to carry on her legacy and help TAC create exhibits of meaning and social importance, as well as broadening our educational outreach possibilities.
Individual contributions can be made to The Art Center Highland Park via the website, www.theartcenterhp.org, or by calling 847-432-1888. Please identify the Jackie Sabath Exhibition Fund for proper attribution.
An integral aspect of the Voices exhibit includes statements from the community. We welcome responses which can be emailed to email@example.com subject voices, to the question,
What lessons can we learn from cancer?
In conjunction with Voices & Visions, TAC presents, Women of Courage: A CWCA Homage to Andrea Harris. Andrea Harris was a Chicago Artist whose project, Beyond Boundaries: Women of Courage“ included a series of portraits celebrating women who have pushed beyond boundaries, dared to imagine, and live their dreams.” In Homage to Andrea’s vision, TAC welcomes members of the Chicago Women Caucus for Art to honor Andrea by submitting one piece, surrounding Andrea’s work with the strength of community. Andrea was an active and passionate member of the Chicago Women’s Caucus for Art. The Women’s Caucus for Art is a national organization that recognizes women’s contributions in the arts. It is an honor to recognize Andrea for her immeasurable impact and for CWCA to show their support by surrounding her work with that of their own, creating a powerful voice of camaraderie and partnership. We can add her name to list of incredible women who inspire all of us, and we are proud to honor and celebrate her spirit. Andrea’s husband has set up, Andrea’s Hope Foundation, www.andreashope.
