ORPHANS OF THE STORM ANIMAL SHELTER

Orphans of the Storm® animal shelter takes in the stray and abandoned, abused and neglected dogs and cats from throughout northeastern Illinois and offers refuge, care and hope until they can be adopted out into loving families.
The shelter is open to the public for adoptions every day of the year except major holidays. With capacity for 190 dogs and over 350 cats, we offer a selection like no other in the Chicago area. Our adoption fee is $90 and can be paid in the form of a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card) or cash. We do not accept checks.

The adoption fee of $90 includes the first innoculations, a general worming, a kennel cough preventative, a flea and tick treatment, a collar, leash and a tag. The dog will be spayed/neutered (if he is not already) at no expense to you at our animal hospital before going home with you.

There will be a final series of innoculations at your expense which includes second distemper/booster shot, fecal exam, rabies vaccination and a heartworm test. These will be given at the same time as the spay/neuter and may be paid for at the animal hospital when you pick up your new dog.

LATEST NEWS

Lots of wonderful adoptions to celebrate this past week. After waiting two years, our shy, sensitive Sprite found the perfect family to love him - from his new family: Hi Staff and Volunteers,Sprite has had a pretty good weekend. He has calmed down some but we are letting him set the pace. We have a lot of birds at the feeder in our yard and he was very interested in them. Must be the retriever genes kicking in. We leave the door open in the kennel and he goes in there to sleep. I think it is familiar and he feels safe there. But he really likes to curl up on the couch. Our cat had several staring contests with him and Sprite always looked away first. So the cat remains the boss and that seems to suit both of them. Thank you for doing so much hard work with him. I could see the affection you all had for him. We are very lucky to reap the benefits of your dedication. I will keep you updated.” We love updates and are happy for Sprite and his new family as well as the new families of Jackson, Hollie, Minnie the pug, Daisy, Waffles, Doc, Minnie, Adalynn, Thor, Grammy the chi, Grace, Roxie the beagle/doxie, Courage the Shepherd/Husky, Blu, Milo the lab, Dinah, Sprinkles, Tank and Tiras. Congratulations!!!

So happy for Thor and his new family. ❤

I had the honor of meeting Sprite while my girlfriend and I volunteered at the Pumpkin Patch Event! He was such a scared sweet boy. He finally got comfortable enough for both of us to pet him. He was nothing but love and cuddles after that. We're both so happy he got adopted! :D <3
